From Mr Roland Rudd

Your leader on Europe was timely (26 June). While it is fashionable to talk about growth rates and the economic potential of Asia, Europe is too often overlooked. It is easy to forget that the EU is the world's largest trading bloc, accounting for 40 per cent of the global total, and that it has delivered a quality of life for its citizens that other parts of the world struggle to match. The question for the EU is how it can act as an enabler to promote growth and increases in standards of living, and how it can help Europe use its skills base to compete in the global market.
