Forty Years of the UK in the EU - Looking Back, Looking Forward
Business for New Europe and the European Parliament Information Office in the UK would like to invite you to a panel discussion on the 40 year anniversary of UK’s accession into the European Economic Community.
This event will not only look back over the 40 years since the UK became a member of the Single Market but it will also discuss the future challenges for the UK in Europe. We will ask the question, what influence has the UK had in shaping the EU as we know it and what role will it have in Europe’s future?
This inaugural event of a series held by the European Parliament Information Office over the course of 2013 will consist of two panel discussions – one looking at the lessons that we can draw from the last 40 years of the UK’s membership, another looking at where we are and where we should be heading. There will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions following each discussion.
There will be a light breakfast served at 8.30am. The event will begin with a welcome from Bjorn Kjellstrom, Head of the European Parliament Information Office in the UK and Phillip Souta, Director of Business for New Europe at 8.55am. The first panel will be from 9 to 10am, and following a short coffee break the second panel will be from 10.20 to 11.20am. The event will end at 11.30am sharp.
